Song: The Promise

By: Tracy Chapman

Album: New Beginnings

I haven't yet had the time to write down how it is picked,

but you can figure it out by ear without much trouble.

capo on 4th fret

VERSE:

Then I'll come for you

C#m Dmaj7 D E7 A -- repeat intro chords twice

I always hold a place for you in my heart

(repeat verse chords)

If you think of me

If you miss me once in a while

Then I'll return to you

I'll return and fill that space in your heart

CHORUS:

Dmaj7 E E7 A -- repeat intro as before

If you'd be waiting

VERSE:

If you dream of me

Like I dream of you

In a place that's warm and dark

In a place where I can feel the beating of your heart

Oh I've longed for you

And I have desired

To see your face, your smile

To be with you wherever you are

REPEAT CHORUS

VERSE:

I've longed for you

And I have desired

To see your face your smile

To be with you wherever you are

LAST CHORUS:

Remembering your touch, your kiss, your warm embrace,

I'll find my way back to you

Please say you'll be waiting

FINALE:

(sing last line three times over intro chords and quit)
