About the song:
Amandla's Interlude is the tenth track from Steve Lacy's 2019 debut album Apollo XXI.
It is a short, intimate instrumental piece featuring Amandla Stenberg playing the violin,
accompanied by Lacy on acoustic guitar. The interlude acts as a serene,
stripped-down interlude compared to the album's usual funk-soul tone, evoking a warm,
intimate, or nostalgic mood. It is often described as a soft,
Spanish-style ballad duet between the violin and guitar.
The track opens with a spoken conversation between Lacy and Stenberg discussing how
effortless the creation of the piece was, with Lacy mentioning
they are giving the listeners the "bare maximum". The recording is raw and unfiltered,
intentionally retaining the impromptu atmosphere of a live session in a room,
including the sound of Lacy laying down his phone/mic at the end.
It serves as a calming, emotional breather near the end of the album,
designed to make the listener "sway with eyes closed".
